Record Numbers at Softball WA's Winter Holiday Junior Clinic

What an incredible day for junior softball!

On the 17th July, Softball WA welcomed a record 73 junior players to the Mirrabooka Softball Complex for its Winter Holiday Junior Clinic – making it one of the biggest junior clinics we have hosted in years.

Usually seeing around eight to ten participants, it was fantastic to have so many young players, aged8 to 15, come along for a fun day of learning and improving their skills. Even better, there was an almost even split of boys and girls taking part.

Players travelled from clubs including Ellenbrook Easterns, Cockburn Cougars, Morley Eagles and Vikings (just to name a few), while plenty of first-time players also joined in to give softball a go. That's exactly what these clinics are all about – introducing new people to the sport while helping current players build confidence and develop the fundamentals in a welcoming environment.

Throughout the day, participants worked through a variety of skill stations covering fielding, throwing, fly balls, base running and hitting. The focus was on breaking the game down into simple, achievable skills that players of all abilities could enjoy and take away with them.

The clinic finished with a 30-minute introduction to pitching for those keen to try something new, before everyone enjoyed the all-important reward – a few well-earned lollies!

A huge thank you goes to our amazing coaching team of Ashlee Harwood, Laurie Prior, Lauren Brown, Kasey Shaw, Anna Daley, Donna Powell and Amanda James. Their enthusiasm, knowledge and willingness to give up their time helped create such a positive experience for every player on the day.

We also have to thank the weather. With rain threatening throughout the morning, we weren't sure if the clinic would be able to go ahead. Thankfully, the clouds held off until just 15 minutes after we packed up, giving us perfect conditions for an action-packed day on the diamond.

Seeing so many young players enjoying softball, making new friends and learning new skills was a fantastic reminder of why these clinics are so important. The enthusiasm and engagement from everyone involved made the day a huge success, and we can't wait to do it all again at the next Junior Clinic.

Keep an eye out on our social media for more action-packed clinics, opportunities, and development. Have a great beginning of Term 3 everyone!
