Coaching: Performance
PERFORMANCE COACH
Performance Coach looks at the next level of coaching performance after completion of the Foundation level. The learning modules help develop coaches who will be working with players on the "performance" pathway.
Qualification at a Performance Talent and/or Performance Talent Battery Coach is attained when the Coach successfully completes all course components.
Qualification at a Performance Talent and/or High Performance Elite Battery Coach is attained when the Coach successfully completes all course components.
Master Accreditation is awarded on the completion of a Tertiary Graduate Degree or Diploma of Elite Sports Coaching. Contact Softball Australia directly for more information.
Performance Talent Level (formerly Level 4)
TARGET AUDIENCE: STATE TEAM COACHES
FACE-TO-FACE COACH DEVELOPMENT AND ONLINE MODULES
Performance Talent Coach provides the coach with the knowledge and skills to manage state teams’ programs and to help state-level players develop more advanced individual softball position-specific and strategic skills. Focus is on optimising all aspects of preparation (physical, mental, technical, tactical, nutrition and recovery) through individualised programs maximising performance, peaking for the national competition, and managing people and resources.
Participants must complete the following Modules.
MODULE – SOFTBALL SPECIFIC – FOUR ELECTIVES TO BE COMPLETED
- Offensive Strategies
- Advanced Batting
- Advanced Baserunning
- Advanced Bunting
- Defensive Strategies
MODULE – SPORT AUSTRALIA INTERMEDIATE COACHING GENERAL PRINCIPLES (PURCHASE THE MANUAL ONLINE)
- Module 1 – The Essence of Coaching
- Module 7 – Development and Maturity
- Module 10 – Skill Acquisition
Once completed, the Module Assessment Worksheets must be emailed to Chet Gray, Chief Operating Officer, Softball Australia for marking: chet.gray@softball.org.au.

TARGET AUDIENCE: STATE TEAM COACHES
FACE-TO-FACE COACH DEVELOPMENT

Focus is on optimising all aspects of preparation (physical, mental, technical, tactical, nutrition and recovery) through individualised programs maximising performance, peaking for the national competition, and managing people and resources.
Participants must complete the following Modules.

- Off speed and change up
- Correcting techniques
- Pitching assets
- Pitching drills
- Options for catching signals
- Framing the pitch
- Throwing to the bases
- Mental skills
MODULE – SPORT AUSTRALIA INTERMEDIATE COACHING GENERAL PRINCIPLES (PURCHASE THE MANUAL ONLINE)

HIGH-PERFORMANCE ELITE (formerly Level 5)
DURATION: 16 HOURS
TARGET AUDIENCE: STATE AND NATIONAL COACHES
FACE-TO-FACE COACH PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT
High-Performance Elite Coach is designed to assist coaches to develop the competencies necessary to work with state senior and national junior (U19) level players. Coaches develop expertise in program, resource and people management; advanced skill development and analysis, positional play and game strategies, basic anatomy biomechanics and physiology, and advanced planning and training methods.
To be eligible to complete High-Performance Elite Coach, participants must complete four modules of the Australian Sports Commissions Intermediate Coaching General Principles (see below).

- Advanced offence

MASTER (formerly Level 6)
DURATION: 1 YEAR FULL-TIME STUDY (OR PART-TIME EQUIVALENT)
TARGET AUDIENCE: STATE AND NATIONAL COACHES
Master is designed to assist coaches to develop the competencies necessary to work with national senior team level players in international competition. Coaches complete a tertiary Graduate Degree or Diploma of elite sports coaching through either one year of full-time (or the equivalent part-time) study with the University of Queensland.
The Master program is designed to assist coaches to augment their proven elite coaching abilities. The program prepares coaches with the most advanced training and planning methods; tactics and sport science are applied specifically to softball coaching. The program aims to produce coaches who are successful at coaching the highest level of softball and who will be competent to act as leaders in the field of high-performance coaching.
